Miley Cyrus found her big break when she became the star of the Disney hit series, "Hannah Montana." From there, her fame skyrocketed and she became a hit pop star. Her target audience was mainly younger girls who looked up to her as a wholesome, good-willed role model in this world of celebrity corruption. In 2010, this pop sensation found herself in the middle of a drug scandal. She was caught smoking a drug called Salvia. Salvia is a hallucinogen that can make it nearly impossible for people to tell the difference between fantasy and reality. Salvia is not federally classified as an illegal drug, therefore leaving Cyrus free of any legal consequences. Although this incident did not put Cyrus in the best light to her fans, it quickly blew over and her success continued.
This speed bump in Cyrus' past got brought up once again when a new video of the teen celebrity surfaced this past Sunday. In the video, while Cyrus was presented with a Bob Marley cake for her 19th birthday, she called herself a "stoner." She remarked to all of her friends,"You know you're a stoner when your friends make you a Bob Marley cake -- you know you smoke way too much f***in' weed." Her close friend Kelly Osbourne quickly made a joke about her having a Salvia problem and not a marijuana problem. However, as soon as the video went viral, it had people talking. Cyrus tried to salvage her reputation by announcing that the remark was made as a joke and was completely sarcastic. In a world where drugs can be right at a person's fingertips, it isn't very smart to make jokes about drug problems. For some, it is a very dangerous reality. And when a celebrity's main fan base consists of young girls, one can bet that a sarcastic comment about smoking weed will not be taken very lightly.
